Hi everyone,

With all the recent discussions around performance and the migration, I thought it could be useful to share a high-level overview of what’s been happening behind the scenes over the past weeks.

December progress

Beyond the visible migration work, December has been a foundational month for TEQ.

We’ve started moving the core of the system to a more modern backend stack, based on .NET Core, and introduced a clear Command / Query Separation (CQS) approach.

In simple terms, this allows us to:

- Standardize how actions and reads interact with the game
- Gradually modernize the existing systems without breaking gameplay
- Prepare the ground for future evolutions

This work is also a prerequisite for:

- Migrating the existing databases toward a cloud-ready SQL environment
- Opening the door to AI-driven game features (such as game bots interacting through the same actions players use)

On the front-end side, the ongoing conversion to Blazor will later allow us to:

- Properly address responsiveness
- Explore a mobile application version of TEQ

This is still very much a transition phase, but the direction is now clearly set.

Thanks again to everyone sticking around, reporting issues, and showing patience during this period.

More to come.

I have a question about the game bots. Will they be marked so we know that that country isn't human controlled? Maybe I'm wrong, but I would assume the first gen of these bots won't post on the in-game forums nor message other players. Would be nice to know if the country who attacks you is a real person you can negotiate with or if it's just a computer.

That’s a very good question, and one we’re actively thinking about.

One important goal with game bots is to avoid creating a clear “two-tier” experience where bot-controlled countries are automatically treated as less meaningful or consequence-free targets.

Because of that, bots may not always be explicitly labeled as such — at least not by default. From a gameplay perspective, they should behave like real actors within the world, not disposable placeholders.

That said, this isn’t a one-size-fits-all rule. Different servers or game modes could explore different approaches, including clearer identification if it makes sense for that context.

As for interaction: you’re correct that bots won’t participate in the external forums. However, part of the longer-term vision is to strengthen in-game communication, so diplomacy and negotiation happen closer to where the game actually unfolds.

Over time, bots should be able to engage in that space in a limited but meaningful way — though early versions will likely be quite basic and easy to recognize.

This is very much an evolving topic, and community feedback here is genuinely valuable in shaping how far we take it.

Easier to run a few customer acquisition campaigns and get 100+ active players instead?

I wouldn't run campaigns yet until all is good. System still freezes a lot.

Bots will be interesting like how Earth2025 does but I would definitely identify them. Or we could do one set let them be identified and one set not.

Will be interesting to see though that's for sure.

Thanks for your work PV.
